Join us for Brighter Futures, a 4-week summer program designed to equip young adults with the tools needed for independence and success. Over the course of eight interactive sessions, participants will gain valuable skills in financial literacy, career readiness, life planning, and self-advocacy.
Brighter Futures is all about making sure you're ready to tackle whatever life throws your way. Whether you're not quite on your own yet, getting ready to go it alone, or already out there making it happen, we've got something for you. Join us on this journey to make your future brighter together!
Brighter Futures Summer Program Overview
July 8–July 31, 2025 | Tuesdays & Thursdays, 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM
Week 1: Building Financial Foundations
Tuesday, July 8 – Intro to Financial Literacy & Budgeting (w/ Teach Me How to Bank)
Learn about money management, needs vs. wants, setting financial goals, and creating a basic budget.
Thursday, July 10 – Banking Basics & Understanding Credit (w/ Teach Me How to Bank)
Understand how bank accounts work, opening checking/savings accounts, and the importance of credit.
Week 2: Career Paths & Professional Skills
Tuesday, July 15 – Career Journey (Panel Discussion w/ Young Professionals & College Students)
Discover career paths, salary expectations, and the importance of building a strong resume.
Thursday, July 17 – Professionalism & Interview Prep (w/ GEARup2Lead)
Explore workplace expectations, practice interviews, and gain insights into entrepreneurship.
Week 3: INDEPENDENT Living—TACKLING Big plans & purchases
Tuesday, July 22 – Housing & Car Ownership (w/ ELGA Credit Union)
Learn about renting vs. buying a home, mortgages, car loans, and the real costs of car ownership.
Thursday, July 24 – Real-World Budgeting & Goal Planning
Engage in affordability exercises, learn to plan for major purchases, and create a long-term financial plan.
Week 4: Self-Advocacy, Community, & Bank account assistance
Tuesday, July 29 – Self-Advocacy & Resources
Develop the skills to advocate for yourself in school, work, and life while navigating systems and accessing support. We will also discuss philanthropy and its role in advocating for communities, empowering you to make a positive impact.
Thursday, July 31 – Bank Account Assistance
Receive assistance opening a bank account.
